As a new reading para-educator, I was asked to help my school with Read Across America Day activities. I came up with the idea of virtually and visually reading “across” America by reading a children’s book by a native born author from each state. Little did I know it would be easier said than done in just three days’ time!
Here is the result of my internet search. I have included the author’s birth and death year if applicable. I featured the author’s first children’s book. For example, the great poet Maya Angelou wrote only one children’s book but published many works of poetry and works for adults.
I hope to be able to read each book myself and provide a little review either by me or a child in the school where I teach. If the book is no longer in print, a more available book by that author will be reviewed.
